Founded in 1958

The Fox Valley Builders Exchange began in 1958 as a needed service for area contractors that required easily available construction project plans and specifications for the competitive bid process. Builders’ Exchanges represent a collection of construction-related firms or “members” within a geographic region who pay annual dues to belong to the organization, and receive the services it provides. Builders’ Exchanges share a common purpose of collecting and disseminating construction bidding information via an online plan room service.
The FVBE’s OnLine Planroom first appeared on Dec. 30th, 1999, and ushered in the new millenium with a powerful Internet information source for the construction industry, reaching far outside any pre-conceived borders or boundaries. In three months, they had to double their staff.
June of 2002 the on-line planroom became so popular that we started the On-Line ONLY Planroom called Builders Exchange of WI. It was monthly subscription option that did not include a physical planroom. It was also offered to other exchanges in Wisconsin to resell to their memberships. La Crosse Builders Exchange was the first to see the benefits and became an affiliate of BXWI, followed by Wausau Builders Exchange.
The opportunity arose in July 2007 to open a second office in the Milwaukee area. Knowing that there were no longer boundaries to the membership we merged the two companies Fox Valley & BXWI and are now known as Builders Exchange of WI. Now there are two convenient locations of BXWI serving the construction industry in Wisconsin.
These days, there are a lot less paper plans hanging on the racks in the Builders Exchange Planroom and fewer and fewer members come thru the door. That is why we feel that our secure website offering electronic availability of projects On-line is a great service to the construction industry. Our dedicated reporting staff is constantly searching for projects for our planrooms. Having the projects in one central location saves the contractors from checking website upon website, trying to remember each password, so they can find projects to bid and their last minute changes. This can all be done from the convenience of any available internet connection, anywhere.

What is a Plan Room?
A Plan Room is a “library” where construction professionals may view bidding documents (blueprints and specifications) for projects seeking price estimates for specific construction products or services.
Traditionally, plan rooms were housed in a physical location that contractors could visit in person. These locations included individual offices of design professionals and prime (GC/CM/DB) contractors and service providers such as the Builders Exchange.
In the late twentieth century, this method was supplemented with online access to bidding documents. Today, plan rooms are predominately electronic in nature, providing instantaneous access to bidding information (including changes) online in real time.
