Carl Eliason Of Sayner Patents The Snowmobile (1927)
November 22
Tinkering in his Sayner shop, Carl Eliason bolted skis, a track, and a small motor into a motor toboggan and patented it in 1927. Every modern snowmobile traces its family tree to Vilas County, which is why the Northwoods calls itself the birthplace of the sport.
