First Mass In Wisconsin Celebrated On The Bay (1669)

Jesuit missionary Father Claude Allouez celebrated the first Mass in Wisconsin near the head of Green Bay on December 3, 1669, the feast day of St. Francis Xavier. Two years later the mission bearing that name settled at the rapids of the Fox River, giving De Pere both its start and its name.
